The agreement

Terms of Use

Short, and meant literally. Play the game, be decent to the person across the board, and we will keep the lanterns lit.

The deal

What you get, and what it costs

Ambryx Obscura is free to play in your browser. There is nothing to buy, no advertising, and no subscription. If that ever changes, nothing you already have will be taken away to make room for it.

By playing, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with them, please don't play — that is the whole enforcement mechanism, and we would rather say it plainly than bury it.

Age

Thirteen and over for an account

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. That is the age at which you can consent to your own data being handled where we are based, and we hold to it.

Below 13 you are still welcome in the Glade — play as a guest. A guest account stores nothing anywhere but your own browser, so there is nothing for the rule to protect you from.

If you are a parent and believe your child under 13 has made an account, tell us and we will delete it and everything attached to it.

Conduct

The short list of don'ts

The world is morally complicated on purpose. The lobby is not. Don't:

  • cheat — modifying the game to gain an advantage in duels against other players;
  • attack the service, or try to break, overload or gain access to parts of it that are not yours;
  • harass anyone, in any channel we run, including our Discord;
  • use a warband name that is abusive, hateful, or impersonates someone else;
  • automate play against other people, or farm matches with scripts;
  • resell or commercially exploit the game or its art.

The duel itself is refereed by our server, not by your browser, so most cheating simply does not work. Where it does, we will close the account.

The state of things

This is an open beta

The game changes weekly. Cards are rebalanced, talents are rewritten, and things that worked yesterday sometimes break today. That is what a beta is, and telling you otherwise would be a lie.

Concretely, this means: the service may be interrupted or taken down without notice; balance changes may make a warband you love worse; and while we back up account data and take losing it seriously, we cannot promise that saved progress will never be lost. Guest progress lives only in your browser — clear your site data and it is gone for good.

The game is provided as it is, without warranty. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses arising from using it. Where the law does not allow that — and in the EU there is much it does not allow — your statutory rights stand untouched by this paragraph.

Ownership

The art is ours; your decks are yours

Ambryx, the Gloaming Glade, the characters, the card art, the writing and the code are ours, and are not free to reuse. You may of course stream the game, record it, write about it, and show it to whoever you like — we would be glad if you did.

The warbands you build are yours. Sharing a warband as a sigil code is exactly what sigils are for. If we ever feature a community warband anywhere, we will name the smith who forged it.

Endings

Leaving, and being asked to leave

You can stop at any time. Ask us and we will delete your account and everything attached to it — see the Privacy Policy for how.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks the conduct rules above. If we ever have to, we will tell you why.

These terms are governed by Swedish law. If we change them, this page changes and the date below moves; substantial changes will be announced on our Discord rather than slipped in quietly.
